10,740 Traffic Violations Issued in One Night for Nighttime Offenses

The head of the Tehran Traffic Police Information Center announced the issuance of 10,740 traffic violation tickets in one night as part of the "Crackdown on Nighttime Offenses" initiative in the capital. Ali Asghar Sharifi stated that out of this number, 2,730 tickets were specifically related to the enforcement of laws against "accident-causing vehicles." This police official emphasized that 130 vehicles were also towed to the impound lot. Meanwhile, the newspaper "Ham-Mihan" recently reported on the astronomical revenues from vehicle seizures and the economic pressure on citizens. The report indicated that the towing cost for transferring a vehicle to the impound lot over a 10-minute route is 1,200,000 tomans. It also stated that the cost for parking each night is at least 100,000 tomans. The public's interest in nighttime outings and the desire for a nightlife culture has faced opposition and prohibition from the Islamic Republic authorities. The seizure of citizens' vehicles for enforcing mandatory hijab laws has also drawn attention, with the Minister of Interior involved. Reactions have emerged regarding the destruction of street cafes, the crackdown on subcultures, and "revenge" against protests in Ekbatan. Students at the Science and Industry University protested against the security atmosphere on campus. The intensification of vehicle seizures "under the pretext of hijab" has been criticized by a legal expert as being contrary to the Constitution. The Tehran Police Information Center denied the claims of its "commander" regarding the arrest of the attacking driver from "Snapp."
