Mina's Mother, a Victim's Advocate, Sentenced to Prison and Fined

On Thursday, March 9, the human rights organization "Hangaw" reported that Mina Soltani Zare, from a victim's family in Kurdistan, has been sentenced to prison and fined by the court. According to the report, Branch 101 of the Criminal Court 2 in Boukan sentenced Mina Soltani Zare, known as (Aunt Mina), the mother of Shahrayar Mohammadi, a victim of the nationwide protests in 2022, to 8 months in prison and a fine of one million tomans for the charges of "propaganda against the government" and "appearing in public spaces without a hijab." This verdict was communicated verbally to her lawyers. On the evening of September 21, 2023, government forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran went to Mina Soltani Zare's home without providing a legal document and arrested her. After 21 days of detention, she was temporarily released from Urmia prison on October 1, 2023, after posting bail. Shahrayar Mohammadi, the 29-year-old son of this family, was killed by direct gunfire from government forces during the nationwide protests following the death of Mahsa Amini in custody of the morality police in 2022.
