14 American Senators Request Trump to Intensify Sanctions on Iran

Senator Mark Rubio, along with 13 other American senators, has requested President Donald Trump to intensify sanctions against Tehran due to the continuation of Iran's missile program in a letter. The office of Mark Rubio, a Republican senator from Florida, published the text of this letter signed on Tuesday, February 6. The letter was prepared by Mark Rubio and Todd Young, a Republican senator from Indiana. The letter states: Iran is actively pursuing a ballistic missile program that poses a threat to our deployed forces, our allies, and our interests. The signatories of this letter emphasized that while there are many serious and immediate threats we are considering, we believe it is important to focus on the increasing threat of Iran's missile program. These 14 American senators praised the actions of the Trump administration against Iran's missile program. The letter stresses: We are very eager to take further steps in cooperation with the government to protect the United States and our allies from this threat. The signatories of this letter also requested the U.S. president to impose sanctions on all institutions and individuals inside Iran who cooperate with the country's missile program, especially the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The letter also expressed concern over the potential cooperation between Iran and North Korea regarding Iran's ballistic missile program. The U.S. accuses Iran of violating UN Security Council Resolution 2231 with its missile tests. Resolution 2231, which endorses the nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers, calls on Iran to refrain from developing ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads. Iran claims its missiles are not designed to carry nuclear warheads, as it has no intention of producing such weapons. Tehran states its missile program is 'defensive' and there are no plans to halt it. Additionally, Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, accused Iran on December 14 of sending missiles and weapons to the Houthis in Yemen, deeming this action a violation of Security Council resolutions.
