Gold in Iran: your questions answered

What is the gold price in Iran today?
Today (October 7, 2026) 18-karat gold trades at about 26,738,300 toman per gram (267,383,000 rials) in Tehran. The Emami coin is 271,910,000 toman. Prices update daily from Tehran market boards.
Why is gold so expensive in Iran?
Iranian gold prices have two parts: the world price of an ounce (in dollars) and the open-market dollar rate. When the rial weakens, gold in toman rises even if the world price is flat, which is why Iranians treat gold and coins as a hedge against the currency. See the dollar to rial rate alongside gold.
What is a mesghal?
A traditional Iranian weight used in the gold market: one mesghal is 4.608 grams of 17-karat (705) gold. Per-gram prices for 18-karat gold are derived from the mesghal price.
What are the Emami and Bahar Azadi coins?
Iran's standard gold bullion coins, each containing 8.133 grams of 21.6-karat gold (about 7.32 g of pure gold). The Emami coin is the current design; Bahar Azadi is the older one. Half and quarter coins contain proportionally less.
