3.5 Billion People Worldwide Use Social Media

The latest report on the web world shows that 3.5 billion people globally use social media. According to data from We Are Social and Hootsuite since the beginning of 2018, more than one million people connect to the internet for the first time every day. It is estimated that there are 4 billion and 388 million internet users worldwide. The number of social media users continues to grow daily. Based on the latest information, 3 billion and 484 million people are active on social media, representing a 9% increase compared to last year. Accordingly, about 288 million people joined social media last year. It is estimated that 5 billion and 112 million people own mobile phones, which shows a 2% increase compared to last year, with about 100 million more mobile phone owners. The highest growth is among those who use mobile phones to access social media. The number of people active on social media via mobile is estimated to be around 3 billion and 256 million, with a 10% growth last year. This year, about 300 million more people connected to social media via mobile. The United States and Northern Europe have the highest internet penetration rates at 95%. In Western Europe, this figure is 94%, Southern Europe is 88%, and Eastern Europe is 80%. In East Asia, it is 60%, and in West Asia, it is 66%. Central Africa has the lowest percentage at 12%. These statistics indicate that in Iran, the number of internet users has increased by 16 million, representing a 29% growth. Iran ranks fifth in the world in terms of internet user growth. In terms of user growth, India has the highest figure with a 21% increase, bringing nearly 100 million new users to the internet last year. China added about 50 million new users with a growth of around 7%. The United States saw an 8% growth with 25 million new users. Statistics show that internet user growth over the past five years has been 75%, indicating a fundamental transformation in people's lives worldwide. In 2014, only 1 billion and 900 million people were using the internet, and now this number has reached 4 billion and 388 million. The highest growth in internet users in the past five years occurred in 2015 when the number of users increased by 22%. The World Wide Web turns 30 this year, and statistics show that users spend an average of six hours and 42 minutes online daily. While this may be good news for some, such levels can be detrimental to human health and lead to increased inactivity. Last year, internet speeds also increased. It is predicted that the introduction of 5G networks will significantly boost internet speeds. Currently, in 12 countries, download speeds have exceeded 100 megabits per second. The first 5G modem, made by Qualcomm, supports speeds of up to 5 gigabits per second, which is 257 times faster than the fastest LTE network available in the U.S. Currently, Singapore has the highest internet speed in the world at 190 megabits per second. In mobile internet, Canada offers the highest speed with a download speed of about 63 megabits per second.
