30 Injured in Passenger Train Collision with Truck in Northern Iran

Emergency and rescue officials in Mazandaran province reported a collision between a passenger train and a truck that left 30 injured. The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported on Friday, July 23, citing Zakaria Ashkpour, the spokesperson for Mazandaran's emergency services, that the incident occurred on Friday morning along the northern railway in the Golokh area, resulting in injuries to 30 train passengers. According to Mr. Ashkpour, emergency teams from the three areas of Lamrasak, Khorshidkala, and Golokh were dispatched to assist the victims, and ultimately the injured were transferred to hospitals in Behshahr and Golokh for treatment. Meanwhile, the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) published a report stating that the general condition of all passengers on the train is stable. This report is accompanied by statements from Youssef Gran Pasha, the director general of the northern railway of Iran, who mentioned that those passengers taken to the hospital were treated on an outpatient basis and were eventually discharged. According to this railway official, only the truck driver was hospitalized at Imam Hospital in Sari due to his injuries. Mr. Gran Pasha attributed the accident to the truck driver, stating that he was driving the truck 'in an unauthorized route and at high speed' while also 'talking on his mobile phone,' which led to the collision with the train. The northern railway route in Iran has previously witnessed similar incidents, with IRNA noting that there have been four cases of vehicle collisions with trains on this route just this year. The report also mentions that four people lost their lives in accidents on this route last year.
