45% Increase in School Transport Fares in Tehran

In today's session of the Tehran City Council, a bill determining the rates for school transport services in Tehran for the current year was approved, with reports indicating a 45% increase in these rates. According to Jafar Tashakkori Hashemi, the head of the Civil Engineering and Transportation Commission of the Tehran City Council, the new fare for entry is set at 42,500 tomans, with an additional charge of 4,300 tomans for each kilometer. For elementary school students who 'require more care,' additional charges have also increased. This council member also stated that for electric vehicles, the fare can increase by up to 80% if special services are provided, and by up to 50% without special services. Earlier this year, the Tehran City Council had already raised public transport fares by 45%, which took effect on the first of Ordibehesht (April 20). Reports indicate that compared to last year, the metro entry fee has increased by at least 16%, while rapid and regular buses have seen increases between 22% and 40%. The determination of public transport fares is approved annually by the Tehran City Council and implemented with the approval of the capital's governorate. The increase in public transport costs is one aspect of the rising household expenses, which, given the annual inflation, directly impacts the imbalance between family income and expenditures.
