50 Days of Interrogation for Majid Asadi in Evin's Solitary Confinement

Majid Asadi's father, a student activist, states that his son has been interrogated for 50 days in one of the solitary confinement cells of Evin Prison and has not had access to a lawyer during this time, nor are the charges against him clear. Mohammad Asadi, speaking with the International Human Rights Campaign, remarked: "Majid has been interrogated in solitary for 50 days and has not had a lawyer at this stage; his case is under investigation, and perhaps once it is sent to court, we might be able to get a lawyer, as currently, we have received no answer other than to wait." According to him, the prosecution officials have not provided any explanation regarding Majid Asadi's charges after all this time, only stating that the case is under review and the situation will soon be clarified. Majid Asadi was arrested on the last day of Bahman last year in Karaj and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison in Tehran. He is considered a former student of Allameh Tabatabai University, who was first detained for his political activities in Tir 1387 (July 2008) for three months. His trial took place in 1388 (2009), which was linked to the prosecution of protesters from that year's presidential election. Ultimately, he was sentenced to four years in prison for "conspiracy and collusion against national security" and served his sentence from 1390 to 1394 (2011 to 2015). Majid Asadi's father states that this time he cannot even guess the reasons for his son's arrest because "he has not had any specific political activities and after his release from prison in 1394, he has been focused on his treatment and working on research and translation in a private company." Mr. Asadi also emphasized that Majid needs medical care for his back and spine pain and mentioned in a phone call home that a copy of his medical file should be given to the prosecutor's office so that this matter can be addressed. The International Human Rights Campaign has reported that the Ministry of Intelligence is responsible for Majid Asadi's detention and stated that he is currently held in Ward 209 of Evin, which is under the control of this ministry.
