612 Executions in Iran Since January, Including Political Prisoners
TEHRAN, Apr 26: Iran has sharply increased the execution of political prisoners on national security charges, according to a U.S.-based human rights group, which warned the true toll is likely far higher than officially documented. The Abdorrahman Boroumand Center said it recorded at least 612 executions across the country since the start of 2026, including 15 carried out since early April. The organization noted that several of those executed had been detained during protests earlier in the year. It added that prolonged internet restrictions—described as among the longest shutdowns in modern history—along with limited judicial transparency have made independent verification difficult, suggesting the real number of executions could be significantly higher. Meanwhile, Iran executed a man in southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan province on Sunday after accusations, including armed rebellion and membership in Sunni militant group Jaish al-Adl, judiciary-affiliated Mizan News reported. Amer Ramesh was arrested during what officials described as a counterterrorism operation in Chabahar.
