A French Police Commander Killed by a 'Loyalist to ISIS'

French police officials announced on Monday that a man who stabbed and killed a police commander and a woman has been shot dead. The assailant is reported to have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS). According to AFP, the spokesperson for the French Ministry of Interior stated that the attacker first killed the senior police officer outside his home at 9 PM local time and then took a woman and the officer's three-year-old son hostage in their home in Magnaville, 55 kilometers west of Paris. Pierre-Henri Brandet added that negotiations with the hostage-taker were unsuccessful, and ultimately, special police forces stormed the house and killed the assailant. He stated that police found the woman's body in the house, but the three-year-old boy is safe. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior mentioned that the casualty figures are heavy. The commander and the police officer were killed by this individual, and the woman's body was also found in the house. Fortunately, the boy who was in the house was rescued by police and is doing well. The news network 'Amaq,' which publishes news and reports from the Islamic State, cited a source stating that one of the group's fighters carried out the operation in Paris. French President Francois Hollande also reacted to the attack, stating that the facts regarding this incident will become clear. He announced a meeting on the matter for Tuesday. An eyewitness told AFP that a man wielding a knife attacked the police officer outside his home while shouting 'Allahu Akbar,' and then went inside the house to take the woman and a child hostage. Meanwhile, a source told AFP that the anti-terror police are investigating how the incident occurred and the statements of the assailant. Reports have not yet clarified the relationship of the murdered woman to the police commander.
