A Human Rights Organization: 11 Prisoners Executed in Iran

The Iran Human Rights Organization reported on Thursday, December 8, that in recent days, the death sentences of 11 prisoners in various cities have been carried out. The organization stated: "On Tuesday, December 5, the death sentences of three men were executed in the central prison of Karaj." According to the organization's announcement, the charges against these individuals were related to drug offenses, and the death sentence of another person with the same charge was also carried out on Wednesday, December 6, in this prison. The Iran Human Rights Organization also reported that on Thursday, the death sentences of three men were executed in the central prison of Shiraz. Accordingly, it was announced that one of these three prisoners was sentenced to qisas (retribution) for the charge of "premeditated murder," while the other two were sentenced to death in a joint case related to "drug offenses." In another report, the organization announced that on November 29, the death sentences of two individuals were carried out in the prison of Esfarayen for the charge of "premeditated murder." Additionally, on November 30, the death sentence of a man in the central prison of Rasht for a drug-related charge was executed. According to this organization, on Wednesday, December 7, the death sentence of a man in the prison of Nahavand for the charge of "premeditated murder" was executed. As reported by human rights media, the execution of prisoners sentenced for "drug offenses" has seen a significant increase over the past four years, with 2023 witnessing an 84% increase compared to 2022, when 256 individuals were executed for drug-related charges, totaling 471 executions recorded for this charge.
