A Labor Activist in Adelabad Prison of Shiraz Denied Medical Treatment

The human rights website "Hrana" reported on the latest situation of Mohammad Davari in Adelabad Prison of Shiraz, stating that this labor activist, despite his poor physical condition, has been denied appropriate medical care and transfer to the prison clinic. Hrana, the news agency of the "Human Rights Activists in Iran" group, quoted an informed source saying: "After 17 days of hunger strike and being held in the Ershad ward, Mohammad Davari is now facing medical issues such as heart pain, numbness and persistent tingling in his right hand up to the elbow, as well as skin diseases and eczema. Despite repeated requests for transfer to the prison clinic, the relevant authorities have prevented his transfer." The report also mentioned that "prison officials obstruct the registration of complaints by prisoners against the prison's intelligence protection unit in Adelabad Shiraz." According to Hrana, prisoners are seeking to file complaints related to torture, beatings, and violations of legal regulations. It has also been reported that Mohammad Davari was transferred to solitary confinement as a punishment for protesting the inappropriate behavior of the prison storekeeper towards prisoners, and he began his hunger strike in protest of this action on June 9. Last December, the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Shiraz sentenced Mohammad Davari, a labor and civil activist and a political science student at Golestan University of Shiraz, to four years and six months in prison along with supplementary punishments. Davari was sentenced to three years in prison for "insulting the leadership" and one and a half years for "propaganda against the regime in cyberspace." The supplementary punishments related to the charge of "insulting the leadership" against this labor and civil activist from Dehdasht include "two years of travel ban through passport revocation, two years of prohibition from activity in cyberspace, and two years of exile in Bardasir, Kerman." According to the laws of the Islamic Republic, the maximum punishment for "insulting the leadership" is two years, and for propaganda against the regime, one year is considered. Voice of America had learned during the handling of the case that this civil activist had refrained from attending the investigation and revolutionary court stages in protest against the "unjust trial process" and the "fabrication of the Ministry of Intelligence." Ultimately, Mohammad Davari, a civil activist residing in Shiraz, was transferred to Adelabad Prison on Tuesday, May 14, to serve his four and a half-year prison sentence.
