A Lebanese National Accused of Transferring Money from the Islamic Republic to Hamas Killed

A security source told AFP that a Lebanese man accused of transferring money from the Islamic Republic to the militant group Hamas, which is under U.S. sanctions, was killed outside Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. According to this source, who requested anonymity, the body of Mohammad Sarvar was found on Tuesday, April 10, in a villa in the mountainous town of 'Bait Meri.' The source added that Mohammad Sarvar, who was shot five times, was found with an unspecified amount of money that the killers did not touch. The National News Agency of Lebanon also reported late Tuesday that the body of a 57-year-old Lebanese man was found in an area near Bait Meri, but only referred to the initials of his first and last name. This security source told AFP that Mohammad Sarvar worked for financial organizations belonging to Hezbollah, which is supported by the Islamic Republic. The U.S. Treasury Department had sanctioned several individuals, including Mohammad Sarvar, in the summer of 2019, accusing them of sending 'tens of millions of dollars' of foreign operations money from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps through Hezbollah to Hamas, which is supported by the Islamic Republic, to be used for terrorist attacks. According to this department, Mohammad Sarvar acted 'as an intermediary' between the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guard and Hamas 'and worked with Hezbollah operatives to ensure that funding reached the armed wing of Hamas; the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades.'
