A Member of Parliament Reports Four Deaths in Recent Protests in Khomeini Shahr

A representative from Khomeini Shahr in Parliament reported that four individuals were killed in the recent protests in this city. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Law Enforcement Force reported that 20 individuals were killed during these protests. However, according to statistics published by Iran's official television, the death toll exceeds 25. Mohammad Javad Abtahi, the representative from Khomeini Shahr, stated in an interview with ILNA news agency on Tuesday, January 8, that based on official statistics, four individuals were killed in the protests over the past few days in this city. He added, "The deceased were from the popular forces. In fact, several innocent protesting citizens were killed during these protests." He claimed that "there were shootings during the clashes" and alleged that "some of the protesters were also armed." Mr. Abtahi did not provide further details on this matter. Meanwhile, Saeed Montazeri Al-Mahdi, the spokesperson for the Law Enforcement Force, announced that 20 individuals were killed in the recent protests. However, according to statistics announced by Iran's official television, at least 25 individuals have been killed in the recent protests in Iran. Based on previous statistics, six individuals were killed in Qahderijan, three in Shahin Shahr in Isfahan province, and four in Dorud in Lorestan province. While Iran's official television reported that six individuals were killed in Toyserkan, the governor of this city stated that three individuals were killed in the clashes there. Hedayatollah Khademi, a representative from Izeh in Parliament, also reported two deaths in this city, but Mostafa Samali, the governor, stated that one person was killed two kilometers away from the clash site in this city and that "the Law Enforcement Force arrested the killer." The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also announced that one of its forces, named Sajjad Shahnasai, was killed in Kahriz Sang, in the cities surrounding Najafabad in Isfahan province with a "hunting rifle." Alongside official statistics, unofficial reports have also emerged regarding the deaths of some individuals. For instance, videos have been released showing the death of one person in Masjed Soleiman in Khuzestan province. However, Alireza Ghorouyi, the governor of Masjed Soleiman, denied this report. In the recent gatherings and protests, more than 1,800 individuals have also been arrested. Meanwhile, Mohammad Javad Abtahi, the representative from Khomeini Shahr, stated that some Afghan nationals were also arrested in these gatherings in this city. Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi, the public and revolutionary prosecutor of Tehran, announced on Sunday that in the past 48 hours, 70 of the detainees from the recent protests have been released after completing investigations and obtaining guarantees. The protests against "high prices" initially began on January 7 in Mashhad and several other cities, but as these gatherings continued, protesters began chanting political slogans against the leader and officials of the Islamic Republic in addition to economic slogans. Subsequently, protests have been held in more than 100 cities across Iran.
