A Police Officer in Zahedan Shot Dead by Armed Individuals

Reports indicate that on Tuesday, January 8, a traffic police vehicle in Zahedan was attacked by armed individuals, resulting in the death of a police officer. The state news agency IRNA reported that two riders on a motorcycle opened fire on the police patrol car at 7:53 PM. The agency added that one traffic police officer was killed and a conscript soldier was injured in this shooting. Armed individuals also killed two family members of a law enforcement employee in Zahedan. The Tasnim news agency, close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, identified the traffic officer as Captain Gholamhossein Jandoost, stating that conscript soldier Hadi Pishavar was injured in the shooting and taken to the hospital. According to this report, Gholamhossein Jandoost was married and from the city of Torbat Jam in Razavi Khorasan province. No group has claimed responsibility for this shooting yet, but media outlets close to the IRGC have referred to the assailants as 'mischief-makers.' In this context, Mohammad Qanbari, the police chief of Sistan and Baluchestan, stated on Tuesday night to IRNA that Captain Jandoost was serving to maintain traffic order in Zahedan. The police chief added that necessary measures are ongoing to identify and arrest the assailants. IRNA reported that the motorcycle riders shot at the police patrol car on Saadi Street between Kowsar and Makran, killing one traffic officer and injuring a conscript soldier present at the scene. Previously, law enforcement and government forces in Sistan and Baluchestan province have been targeted in armed attacks, and police officials have occasionally reported identifying and arresting the perpetrators of these attacks.
