A Senior Member of the U.S. Congress from the Republican Party Targeted in Shooting

During a shooting in Virginia, in the suburbs of Washington D.C., Steve Joseph Scalise, a senior Republican representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, and at least two others were injured. According to reports, the gunman opened fire on Wednesday, June 14, at a baseball field where several Republican representatives and members were practicing. During this shooting, this senior Republican member and several others were injured. Mr. Scalise is a representative from Louisiana and was shot in the hip, with medical sources reporting his condition as stable. Morris Jackson Brooks, a Republican representative from Alabama who was present at the baseball practice, told CNN, 'At least five people were injured during the shooting.' Brooks detailed that he believed only one man fired shots at the practice field. The Alexandria police, the area where the shooting occurred, told Reuters that the number of people transported from the shooting scene to the hospital was reported as five. The Alabama representative also mentioned that about 20 to 25 Republican members, including representatives from Congress, were practicing at the baseball field in Virginia. He emphasized that he did not have accurate information about Mr. Scalise's condition, but it did not seem that his injury posed a life-threatening risk.
