A Senior Official of the Islamic Republic Acknowledges Iran Violated IAEA Regulations

A senior official of the Islamic Republic has admitted that Iran violated the regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), but claims that the amount of nuclear materials secretly produced by Iran is not significant. The Islamic Republic's state television reported on Tuesday, quoting Ali Akbar Salehi, Iran's representative to the IAEA, stating that Iran's shortcomings are only at the level of grams and micrograms. The IAEA reported on Monday that Iran has recently produced small amounts of enriched uranium and plutonium. According to this report, which Western news agencies have obtained a copy of, Iran violated multiple commitments it accepted under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and deliberately concealed evidence of its nuclear program from international inspectors. The report adds that while there is no indication of the Islamic Republic's intent to produce nuclear weapons, given Iran's past secrecy, determining that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes will take time.
