Abbas Kiarostami Discharged from Hospital

Reports indicate that Abbas Kiarostami, the renowned Iranian filmmaker, has been discharged from a hospital in Tehran after 50 days of treatment on Tuesday evening, May 7. Before leaving the hospital, Kiarostami told an ISNA reporter about his health status: "I am being discharged from the hospital today, but this discharge does not mean full recovery." He added, "I have been in the hospital for 50 days and I hope to continue my recovery process at home." Earlier media reports indicated that this famous Iranian director had undergone surgery four times due to gastrointestinal problems. Bahram Kiarostami, the brother of this Iranian director, also stated: "My brother is going home with a series of tubes. His treatment is to continue at home." According to him, Abbas Kiarostami's home treatment will last for 10 days. Bahram Kiarostami expressed hope that his brother's condition would improve more quickly after being transferred home. Abbas Kiarostami is the only Iranian filmmaker to have received the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. His acclaimed work, "Taste of Cherry," was made in the mid-1990s. Other notable works by this artist include "Certified Copy," "Through the Olive Trees," "The Wind Will Carry Us," and "Where Is the Friend's Home?" In this context, Kiarostami was transferred from the intensive care unit to the general ward. The Deputy of Iran University of Medical Sciences stated: "Kiarostami does not have cancer." Kiarostami underwent surgery again and has now been discharged from the hospital.
