Abdollah Momeni Released After Acceptance of Case Review and Closure of His File

Abdollah Momeni, a political activist, was released from prison after the Supreme Court accepted his case review, leading to the closure of his file and a reduction in his prison sentence. His brother, Fazlollah Momeni, announced this news to the Shargh network, explaining that the initial one-year prison sentence for Abdollah Momeni was overturned due to insufficient justification for the maximum sentence. Abdollah Momeni, a political activist and former student leader, had been sentenced to one year in prison for participating in the virtual conference "Dialogue for the Rescue of Iran." Following the two-day virtual conference, which included 42 political and civil activists from inside and outside Iran and featured messages from eight political prisoners on the first and second of Ordibehesht last year, government forces summoned and arrested several participants of the meeting. In September of last year, Abdollah Momeni was also among the signatories of a statement supporting citizens' right to protest against "wrong policies" and the "destructive actions of the ruling regime." This political activist was imprisoned for five years during the 2009 protests known as the "Green Movement," and reports of torture and illegal treatment by the government were published at that time. The reaffirmation of Abdollah Momeni's one-year prison sentence in the appellate court, the statement of 14 political prisoners condemning the death sentence of Tomaj Salehi: "Silence today means a sentence tomorrow for us," and the criticism from 21 political prisoners regarding the exile of Saeed Madani to Damavand prison: "The rulers are seeking to create a hollow authority." Abdollah Momeni was sent to prison to serve a one-year sentence after appearing at the execution unit. The prison sentences of two political activists participating in the virtual meeting "Dialogue for the Rescue of Iran" were confirmed. Iranians praised Narges Mohammadi for her "struggle for freedom" and "resilience in the fight."
