Abram Pili: The Islamic Republic Wants to Mislead the World by Violating the Death Sentence of Tomaj Salehi

Abram Pili, the Deputy Special Representative of the U.S. Department of State for Iran, described the violation of Tomaj Salehi's death sentence as a "pretense of leniency" by the Islamic Republic aimed at "misleading the world" and criticized the judicial trickery of the "Iranian regime" to "silence dissenters." On Tuesday, July 5, he stated on the social media platform "X" that the judicial cases against Tomaj Salehi, a imprisoned critical rapper, and Narges Mohammadi, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate imprisoned in Evin Prison, are "clear examples" of this tactic by the Iranian government. This senior U.S. official wrote: "The Iranian regime uses its judicial system to silence dissenters. The cases of Tomaj Salehi and Narges Mohammadi are clear examples of this. The alleged charges against them... are comments against the regime's abuses." The Deputy Special Representative of the U.S. Department of State for Iran pointed out: "And now regarding Tomaj, the regime is misleading the world by pretending to be lenient." Recently, the Supreme Court of Iran overturned Tomaj Salehi's death sentence, who is imprisoned in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan. Abram Pili emphasized to the Islamic Republic: "Free Tomaj, Narges, and all political prisoners right now." The U.S. has consistently taken a stand against widespread human rights violations by the Islamic Republic and criticized the Iranian government's actions in this regard. So far, numerous activists and international organizations have called for the release of Narges Mohammadi, the imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize winner in Evin, and all political prisoners in Iran. The Islamic Republic has shown no attention to these requests and has increased pressure on its critics and opponents. Reactions to the violation of Tomaj Salehi's "death sentence" have led political and human rights figures to call for pressure on the Islamic Republic and the release of Tomaj. The Canadian Parliament approved the "Tomaj Sanctions" plan; 31 judicial officials of the Islamic Republic were sanctioned. The European Union has called for the immediate release of Narges Mohammadi.
