Loren has won two Academy Awards: the first in 1961 for her role as a grieving mother during the war in the neorealist film "Two Women" directed by Vittorio De Sica, and the second an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement in 1991. Some of her most memorable and successful films were made alongside her Italian co-star Marcello Mastroianni, who passed away in 1996. She has also starred with other cinematic giants including Cary Grant, Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, and Paul Newman. Her last performance was in the 2020 film "The Life Ahead," directed by her son Eduardo Ponti, where she plays a former prostitute and Holocaust survivor caring for the children of prostitutes in the city of Bari in southern Italy and helping a Senegalese orphan boy. The news of her fall and hospitalization was first reported on the Facebook page of "Sophia Loren," a chain restaurant named after her. It is said that she was planning the opening of the fourth branch of this restaurant in Bari. Sophia Loren, the star of cinema's golden years, turned 85, and the Best Actress award at the "Italian Oscars" was given to 86-year-old Sophia Loren. She returns to cinema with a film directed by her son, and she published her memoirs on the eve of her 80th birthday.
