Accusation: Propaganda Against the Regime; Yasser Rahmani-Rad Summoned to Court

Yasser Rahmani-Rad, a doctor who was detained during last year's protests following the death of Mahsa Amini while in the custody of the morality police for attempting to assist injured detainees, announced his summons to court on December 25, Tuesday. Mr. Rahmani-Rad wrote on his Instagram page: "I will appear in court with my lawyer, Payam Darfashan, to defend against the attributed accusation after my last arrest on September 21." He noted that "the attributed accusation, after several changes in charges, was ultimately understood as propaganda against the regime." Previously, this doctor had been accused of "spreading falsehoods and disturbing public opinion" for posting content on social media, including a note about protesters who were injured in the eye due to gunfire from Islamic Republic forces. Yasser Rahmani-Rad, who was arrested on September 21, was released on bail of 1.5 billion tomans on October 10 of this year, with the charge of "propaganda against the regime" explained to him. Mr. Rahmani-Rad wrote: "If expressing sympathy and writing about the suffering of injured protesters, especially those who lost their sight due to lead pellets, is considered propaganda against the regime, I take pride in that." He added: "If providing medical assistance and helping to resolve the medical problems of the injured, a duty that was on the shoulders of the government but part of which I took upon myself and for which I was imprisoned, is considered propaganda against the regime, I repeat, I take pride in that."
