Action Against Execution; Women Political Prisoners in Evin Join Hunger Strike of 10 Prisoners in Qazalhessar

Following the announcement of a hunger strike by 10 political prisoners in Qazalhessar prison, women political prisoners in Evin prison declared that they have joined this hunger strike. This is the second public hunger strike of political and ideological prisoners in the women's section of Evin prison in the past week. According to a statement published on the Instagram account of Narges Mohammadi, a political prisoner and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, the political prisoners held in the women's section of Evin prison announced their hunger strike after learning that 10 political prisoners in Qazalhessar would go on hunger strike on Tuesdays in protest against executions and to call for their cessation. The statement reads: 'All women prisoners in Evin prison are on hunger strike today, Tuesday, February 10, 1402, in protest against the execution of four Kurdish political prisoners, Vafa Azbar, Mohammad Farahmarzi, Pejman Fatehi, Mohsen Mazloom, and to stop the execution of dozens of other prisoners, while expressing solidarity with the strikers in Qazalhessar.' This hunger strike is part of a broader movement against executions, referred to as 'Black Tuesdays,' with ten political prisoners participating. The first public hunger strike of political and ideological prisoners in the women's section of Evin prison took place on Thursday, February 5, following the execution of Mohammad Ghobadlou and Farhad Salimi, two political prisoners, which received support from various political and civil activists both inside and outside Iran. Previously, human rights activist Atena Daemi stated to Voice of America that a hunger strike in prison against executions signifies that the Islamic Republic cannot suppress us.
