AFC Asian Cup: Uzbekistan and Iraq Advance to Quarterfinals

The national football teams of Uzbekistan and Iraq have reached the quarterfinals of the AFC Asian Cup. According to the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) from China, despite Uzbekistan having secured its advancement with two previous victories, the importance of their third match against Turkmenistan was heightened due to the relations between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The two teams ended the first half in a balanced 0-0 draw. However, Uzbekistan achieved its third consecutive victory with a goal from Kasimov in the 58th minute, advancing as the first team from Group C, even though they played with ten men from the 85th minute. In another match in this group, Iraq faced Saudi Arabia in a crucial game, ultimately defeating the three-time Asian Cup champions and last tournament's runners-up with a score of 2-1. Iraq also advanced to the quarterfinals with this victory. The first half of this match ended in a goalless draw, with Nashat Akram scoring in the 51st minute and Younis Mahmoud in the 86th minute for Iraq, while Muntashari scored the lone goal for Saudi Arabia in the 57th minute.
