After Niloufar Hamedi, Elahe Mohammadi Also Filed a Complaint Against Judge Salavati for 'Not Enforcing the Law'

The husband of Elahe Mohammadi, a journalist imprisoned in Evin Prison, announced that his wife has filed a complaint against Abolqasem Salavati, the judge of the 15th branch of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, for 'not enforcing the law.' Saeed Parsaee wrote on his X account: 'Over the past 15 months, it has been proven to us that not only the Constitution but also the laws of criminal procedure and the regulations regarding prisoners' rights are merely meaningless words on paper. For this reason, Elahe has registered four complaints against Abolqasem Salavati for not enforcing the law in the past month, addressed to the Judges Court, the Government Employees Prosecutor's Office, the Presidency of the Revolutionary Court, and the Criminal Court.' Mohammad Hossein Ajorlou, the husband of Niloufar Hamedi, another imprisoned journalist who has been in 'temporary detention' for more than a year, also announced on December 9 that she had filed a complaint against Judge Salavati. Niloufar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi, two imprisoned female journalists in Evin Prison, were recently sentenced by Judge Salavati to a total of 25 years in prison and additional penalties. These two journalists were arrested during last year's nationwide protests for covering the death of Mahsa Amini while in the custody of the morality police and were accused of 'collaborating with a hostile government,' an accusation they strongly denied. Elahe Mohammadi was sentenced to six years in prison for what the Islamic Republic's judiciary labeled 'collaborating with a hostile government,' five years for 'gathering and colluding to commit a crime against national security,' and one year for 'propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran.' Niloufar Hamedi was sentenced to seven years for 'collaborating with a hostile government,' five years for 'gathering and colluding to commit a crime against national security,' and one year for 'propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran,' of which seven years is enforceable if confirmed. The United States government has repeatedly denied any connection or collaboration with these journalists and described the issuance of such sentences as an attempt by the Islamic Republic to suppress freedom of expression in Iran.
