Aida Shakeri's Charges for Trial: Encouragement of Corruption and Prostitution and Defiance Against Officials

Aida Shakeri's lawyer, the sister of the late Nika Shakeri, announced on Thursday, June 10, that his client has been referred to Branch 1030 of the Tehran Criminal Court under charges of "encouragement of corruption and prostitution and defiance against officials." Reza Shafakhah added on the social media platform 'X' that this indictment will be reviewed in court on July 4 of this year. Nika Shakeri, a teenage protester, was killed by government forces during the crackdown on nationwide protests in 2022. Aida Shakeri was arrested on April 29 during a new wave of repression against opponents of the mandatory hijab enforced by the Islamic Republic. Her arrest was accompanied by violence. She was released on bail from Qarchak Prison on May 4. Since April 25, the Islamic Republic has deployed its police and plainclothes forces in various cities of Iran under the new crackdown on women's optional dress, referred to as the 'Noor Plan.' In this context, the police and judiciary accuse opponents of the mandatory hijab of encouraging what they call 'corruption and prostitution.' Nevertheless, despite widespread arrests of girls and women opposing the mandatory hijab, their civil resistance continues. The creators of the film 'Guest' awarded the Nice Festival prize to Nika Shakeri and her generation. Exclusively, the United States described reports regarding Nika Shakeri's murder as 'horrific' and called for a UN fact-finding mission. Aida Shakeri was released from prison after posting bail.
