Aida Younesi Reports Four-Month Prevention by Ministry of Intelligence for Her Father's Transfer from Prison to Hospital

Aida Younesi, daughter of imprisoned Myriousof Younesi held in Evin Prison, announced on Tuesday, July 23, via a post on X (formerly Twitter), that the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic and Evin Prison officials continue to prevent her father from being transferred to a hospital for treatment. She wrote: "My father needs immediate surgery; the prison doctor has emphasized for four months that he must go to the hospital for surgery. The deputy prosecutor has agreed, my mother has reserved a hospital bed and a specialist doctor three times so far, but Evin Prison officials have prevented my father's transfer each time at the last moment." Aida Younesi added: "The Ministry of Intelligence and prison officials use every opportunity to harass and torment prisoners, from limiting minimum facilities inside the prison to preventing necessary medical treatment; their goal is to create discomfort and pain for the prisoner." In a previous post on X, Aida Younesi mentioned that her father, who has been imprisoned on charges of collaborating with the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization, has completely lost hearing in one ear and has become hard of hearing in the other over the past year. Reza Younesi, son of Yousof Younesi, had also tweeted earlier expressing serious concern for his father's health, stating, "My father's physical condition has worsened in solitary confinement; during our weekly phone call, he said he has been experiencing nausea and diarrhea, and due to the low quantity and very poor quality of food, he has lost a lot of weight." Myriousof Younesi was arrested on December 31, 2022, and a year later was sentenced to five years in prison for collaborating with the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization. The Ministry of Intelligence claimed after his arrest that it had identified "the largest network for financing and equipping operational teams" of the Mojahedin-e Khalq in Iran and arrested some key individuals of this network. Myriousof's other son, Ali Younesi, a "computer engineering student at Sharif University and holder of a gold medal in the astronomy Olympiad in 2017," was also arrested in 2020 and sentenced to 16 years in prison after spending months in solitary confinement. Ali Younesi was also accused in court of having connections with the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization. The Younesi family has described the accusations against Myriousof and Ali regarding their connection to the Mojahedin-e Khalq as "ridiculous."
