Airplane Crash with 81 Passengers in Colombia; At Least Three Survivors

An airplane with 81 passengers, including several Brazilian football players, crashed on Monday night, December 8th (local time) near the city of Medellín in Colombia. According to reports, at least three of the passengers survived the crash. The French news agency, citing Medellín airport, reported that among the 72 passengers on board, nine were members of the Brazilian football team 'Chapecoense Real'. This team was scheduled to play against Atlético Nacional of Colombia in the South American competitions. According to some reports, nine other passengers were crew members of the aircraft. The 'LaMia' airplane was en route from Bolivia to Medellín and crashed 50 kilometers from the city in an area known as 'Cerro Gordo'. The original departure point of this flight was Brazil, with a stop in Bolivia. The mayor of a nearby city told the French news agency, 'It seems that running out of fuel was the cause of the crash.' Officials have not yet announced the reason for the incident. Meanwhile, it is unclear what caused the potential fuel depletion of the aircraft. However, the Associated Press reports that the cause of the crash was a technical failure and a power supply failure. Medellín airport officials stated that access to the crash site is only possible by land due to bad weather conditions. Rescuers have arrived at the scene, and Colombian officials say at least six people survived the air disaster. However, only the survival of three individuals has been confirmed, and it is reported that there may be more survivors.
