Alborz Judiciary: Hamid Ghareh-Hosseinlou Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

The head of the Alborz judiciary announced on Thursday, November 2, in response to statements made by the father of Rouhollah Ajamian, a Basij member killed during the protests of 2022, that no one has intervened or advised in favor of or against the defendants in Ajamian's case, either verbally or in writing. Hossein Fazeli Harikandi emphasized that Hamid Ghareh-Hosseinlou is currently serving a 15-year sentence in Yazd prison. According to him, there are 10 years of exile in Kerman prison for Hossein Mohammadi, Reza Arya, and Mehdi Mohammadi, five years of exile in Mashhad prison for Mohammad Amin Akhlaqi Savajlou, Amin Mahdi Shakarlahi, and Farzaneh Ghareh-Hosseinlou, and three years of exile in Qom prison for Ali Moazami Goudarzi. In this regard, it has been announced that Aryan Farzan Nia is also in prison since the beginning of his detention, like other convicts, due to the need for further investigation and completion of inquiries. The statements of the head of the Alborz judiciary came after the father of Rouhollah Ajamian attacked Ali Akbar Velayati, advisor to Ali Khamenei, during a live television program on the night of November 1, claiming he was responsible for not executing more people due to his son's death. He also stated without evidence that 80 people were accused in the case, of which only 8 are currently detained, and if Velayati turns his head, these 8 will also be released. According to Iranian media, the father of this Basij member has called for more executions and reacted to the host's attempts to manage the program by saying that he has been told several times during his appearances on state television not to speak about Velayati and that he is afraid of him. According to images released from this program, the father of the slain Basij member left the studio in anger after saying, 'Velayati is my child's killer.' The Islamic Revolutionary Court of Alborz sentenced Hamid Ghareh-Hosseinlou, the doctor accused in the case of the slain Basij member Rouhollah Ajamian, to 15 years in prison in a new ruling in April. Initially, this case had 16 defendants, and following the issuance of initial rulings in the same branch and their confirmation by the Supreme Court, Mohammad Hosseini and Mohammad Mahdi Karami were sentenced to death by the judiciary, which were carried out despite significant protests both inside and outside Iran. However, the cases of the remaining defendants were 'returned to the same branch for review and re-sentencing.' Hamid Ghareh-Hosseinlou and his wife, Farzaneh, were arrested by security forces after the memorial ceremony for Hadith Najafi, one of the victims of the nationwide protests in Karaj. Hamid Ghareh-Hosseinlou, a 53-year-old doctor, is one of five people who were sentenced to death for 'killing a Basij member,' which was later revoked. The detainees in this case have denied the accusation of killing this Basij member. The lawyer for the family of Abolfazl Adinehzadeh at the grave of this slain protester stated: 'We are still seeking justice for this horrific murder.' Dr. Hamid Ghareh-Hosseinlou stated: 'I only approached Rouhollah Ajamian to help him and because of my medical oath.' The lawyer for the Adinehzadeh family urged: 'Just as quickly as the Ajamian case is being processed, bring our plea for justice to a conclusion.' The committee following the situation of the detainees reported on the execution of the exile sentence of Dr. Ghareh-Hosseinlou and other defendants in the 'Rouhollah Ajamian' case. New details emerged regarding the 'torture of Mohammad Mahdi Karami and Mohammad Hosseini'; they were told they had been pardoned.
