Ali Adinehzadeh, Father of Justice-Seeker, Released After About 50 Days

Ali Adinehzadeh, the father of Abolfazl Adinehzadeh, one of the victims of the 'Women, Life, Freedom' protests, has been released after approximately 50 days of detention. Marzieh Adinehzadeh, Mr. Adinehzadeh's daughter, wrote on the social media platform X on Tuesday, September 10, that her father has been freed from Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad. Ms. Adinehzadeh did not provide further details about the circumstances of her father's release. Earlier, she had announced on Instagram that judicial authorities had set a bail of 1.2 billion tomans for her father's release, and since it was stated that rural property collateral was not acceptable, the family was in despair. Ali Adinehzadeh was arrested on July 25 after being summoned by the first branch of the Revolutionary Court of Quchan. The charges against him in the summons included 'spreading falsehoods with the intent to disturb public opinion' and 'propaganda against the regime.' The Adinehzadeh family has faced government pressures over the past two years, including summonses, arrests, and raids by agents in their village in North Khorasan. Abolfazl Adinehzadeh was killed on October 8, 2022, during protests following the death of Mahsa Amini, shot at close range by Islamic Republic security forces and hit by dozens of pellet bullets at the age of sixteen. Human rights organizations estimate the number of victims of the nationwide 'Women, Life, Freedom' protests to be over five hundred. The severe government crackdown and the risk of protests becoming 'underground' are highlighted by accounts from doctors and eyewitnesses regarding the injured during the protests.
