Ali Aghil, Political Activist, Transferred to Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad to Serve Five-Year Sentence

Ali Aghil, a political activist, who was summoned to serve a five-year prison sentence, presented himself to the judicial authority on Thursday, May 20, and was transferred to prison. Reza Khosroabadi, a friend of this constitutionalist political activist who accompanied him, confirmed his transfer to prison by sharing a photo of himself with Ali Aghil, stating that Ali Aghil introduced himself at noon on Thursday for the 'execution of the unjust sentence' at Branch 21 of the Revolutionary Court in Mashhad, located on Koohsangi Street. This political prisoner, shortly before presenting himself to prison, shared a photo of his children on the social media platform X, stating that he entrusts his family 'after the God of the rainbow' to Prince Reza Pahlavi and the 'noble nation of Iran.' In this message, he wrote: 'Take care of my trusts.' This political activist residing in Mashhad received a summons three days prior to present himself at Branch 21 of the Criminal Execution Court of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office in Mashhad to serve a five-year prison sentence. According to previous reports, the Fifth Branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Mashhad sentenced him to one year in prison for 'propaganda against the regime' and four years for 'membership in opposition groups.' This sentence was 'exactly confirmed' by the Fourth Branch of the Appeals Court of Razavi Khorasan Province. Ali Aghil previously explained on the social media platform X that the court's basis for the charge of 'membership in opposition groups' was that 'I identified myself as a constitutionalist and repeatedly supported the Pahlavi family and supported Ms. Fatemeh Sepahri, who is a monarchist, and recorded a video in front of Qaem Hospital in Mashhad on the day she was ill, wishing her health.' He also mentioned his support for 'Abbas Vahidiyan Shahroudi, a political prisoner in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad,' explaining that due to 'these few instances, I became a target for charges of membership in opposition groups and such heavy sentences were issued against me.' Ali Aghil, who was summoned to Branch 906 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Razavi Khorasan Province on November 2 of last year, was arrested after presenting himself to this judicial unit in Mashhad. According to Khosro Ali-Kordi, a lawyer, this political activist, who went to the prosecutor's office 'without a chosen lawyer,' faced charges including 'propaganda against the Islamic Republic,' and the investigator issued a bail of 600 million tomans after explaining the charges, but 'due to not having the required bail,' this political activist was transferred to prison and was released on November 7 after posting bail.
