All 61 passengers of the plane that crashed in Brazil were killed

Following the crash of a passenger plane in Sao Paulo state, Brazilian officials reported that all 61 occupants of the aircraft were killed. The plane, which was en route from Cascavel to Sao Paulo, crashed at 1:30 PM local time on Friday, August 9. According to officials in Vinhedo, a city 80 kilometers northwest of Sao Paulo where the plane crashed, all passengers lost their lives, and a house was also damaged. The airline, Voepass, announced that all 57 passengers and four crew members had Brazilian documentation. Additionally, a local official stated that some of the passengers were doctors heading to a seminar. A video shared on social media shows a plane spiraling out of control before crashing behind trees near houses, followed by a column of black smoke. One resident told Reuters that the plane was spinning in a spiral and crashed shortly after, exploding. According to the news agency, the final spin of the plane appeared unusual and raised curiosity, but experts have stated that it is still too early to determine the cause of the crash. Another local resident told Reuters that it seemed the pilot was trying to steer away from a nearby crowded neighborhood. The aircraft was identified as an ATR 72, a model jointly manufactured by Airbus and the Italian aerospace group Leonardo. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva called for a minute of silence for the victims during a speech at a ceremony. Earlier reports indicated that firefighting teams had been dispatched to the crash site. This is the deadliest aviation disaster in Brazil since 2007, when a plane crash resulted in 199 fatalities.
