According to reports from Kabul, Haj Abdul Qadir, the deputy to Hamid Karzai, was assassinated on Saturday by unknown individuals. Taj Mohammad Wardak, the Minister of Interior in the transitional government of Afghanistan, stated that Haj Abdul Qadir was shot along with his driver outside his workplace in the capital around noon local time, and both were killed. Basir Salangi, the police chief of Kabul, said that there were two assailants who fired many bullets at Haj Abdul Qadir's vehicle, and both managed to escape. Several of his workplace guards, who did nothing to prevent the attack, have been arrested. Haj Abdul Qadir was from the Pashtun tribe and was part of the Northern Alliance, serving as the Minister of Public Works in the transitional government.
