Amnesty International Calls for Immediate Cancellation of Death Sentences for Six Arab Iranian Prisoners in Ahvaz

Amnesty International has expressed 'serious' concern over the imminent execution of six Arab Iranian prisoners in Shayban prison in Ahvaz and has urged the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately revoke their death sentences and release these six individuals. In a series of tweets, this human rights organization addressed the situation of Ali Majdam, Moein Khonfari, Mohammad Reza Moghadam, Salem Mousavi, Adnan Ghabishavi, and Habib Daris. Amnesty International emphasized that their group trial was 'extremely' unfair, and these prisoners were denied access to their lawyer during the trial and did not receive a copy of their verdict. The organization stated that the Revolutionary Court of the Islamic Republic used 'torture-induced confessions' to sentence these six individuals to death. According to informed sources, agents of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) beat Habib Daris, deprived him of sleep, applied electric shocks to his fingertips and chest, and hung him upside down while submerging his head in a large container of water. The report also indicates that the agents tied this prisoner to a table, placed a wet towel over his face, and induced a feeling of suffocation by pouring water over the towel. Amnesty International reported that the prisoner was beaten so severely that his body was covered in blood and bruises, and parts of his skin were torn off. IRGC agents also applied electric shocks to Moein Khonfari and beat him in a painful manner. Amnesty International reported that agents blindfolded Ali Majdam, tied him next to an electric shock device, connected wires to his ears, and while still blindfolded, instructed him to move his hand over a panel on the device, which resulted in electric shocks to his body. The organization reported that IRGC agents detained Ali Majdam's wife and young child to force him to 'confess' on camera to whatever they wanted, and these 'forced confessions' were broadcast as a promotional video on state television before the trial. Amnesty International tagged Ali Khamenei on Twitter, urging him to immediately halt any plans for the execution of Ali Majdam, Moein Khonfari, Mohammad Reza Moghadam, Salem Mousavi, Adnan Ghabishavi, and Habib Daris, to revoke their convictions and death sentences, and to release these six individuals right now. The Iran Human Rights Organization also warned about the imminent execution of these prisoners and called for a global response to stop the government's execution machine.
