An Iranian-American Among the Victims of California Shooting

One of the victims of the shooting on Wednesday, December 3, in Southern California, which left 14 dead, is a 46-year-old Iranian-American woman. According to a statement from the family of Benita Betbadal, this Iranian-American woman was the mother of three children and had immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 to 'escape mistreatment of Christians' following the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Syed Rizwan Farook, the inspector responsible for restaurant inspections at the San Bernardino Health Department, and his wife Tashfeen Malik attacked a holiday party attended by Farook's colleagues. Reports indicate that Farook had been present at the party but left the venue and then returned armed with his wife, opening fire on the attendees. According to police, the two fired 75 rounds at the participants. The Associated Press reported that an American security official confirmed on Thursday that Farook 'had been in contact with Islamic extremists through social media.' The police chief of San Bernardino stated that after the two attackers were killed, at least 1,600 rounds of ammunition, along with three homemade bombs and a remote control device, were recovered from their rental vehicle. He added, 'Twelve homemade bombs and three thousand rounds of ammunition were also discovered at the home of Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife.' Meanwhile, Barack Obama, the President of the United States, after a meeting on Thursday with his national security advisors, expressed confidence that the FBI and law enforcement would uncover the reasons behind this incident. He also urged citizens to wait for the facts before making any judgments about the event.
