An Iranian asylum seeker in Denmark who intended to blow himself up was arrested

Danish police announced on Wednesday, August 10, that they had arrested a 22-year-old Iranian asylum seeker who had stated his intention to blow himself up. According to Reuters, the Danish police arrested this Iranian asylum seeker while he was attempting to detonate himself on the roof of a building. This incident occurred at a refugee and asylum seeker accommodation site on Funen Island (west of Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark). The Danish police surrounded the area and evacuated surrounding buildings but did not provide any details about the discovery of explosives from this Iranian asylum seeker or the type and quantity of such materials. In a statement, the Danish police indicated that the individual had intended to commit suicide due to a 'romantic affair' and that there was no political motive involved. The statement noted that the police were able to dissuade the asylum seeker from committing suicide by talking to him on-site. No information has been released regarding the identity of this Iranian asylum seeker. This is the second report of this nature involving an Iranian in the past month. An 18-year-old German-Iranian named 'Ali Sanabli' killed nine people in a shooting at a shopping center in Munich, Germany, on August 1. After this deadly shooting, he also ended his own life. German police officials found a significant amount of books and articles about 'mass killings' at Ali Sanabli's home, which they stated indicated his interest in the subject of genocide. However, German authorities announced that Ali Sanabli had no prior criminal record but had been planning for this deadly attack for a year. The German Ministry of the Interior also stated that there was no evidence linking Ali Sanabli to terrorist groups. The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the deadly Munich attack and expressed condolences to the German people and government.
