Announcement of a $725 Million U.S. Package to Strengthen Ukraine's Defense Capabilities

Jake Sullivan, the U.S. National Security Advisor, announced a new $725 million aid package for Ukraine to enhance the country's defense capabilities. In a statement, Sullivan said, 'In September, the President announced that security assistance to Ukraine would be significantly increased so that Ukrainian forces are in the strongest possible position before the end of his presidency. To this end, he directed his team to fully utilize all available financial resources to support Ukraine's defense.' This package includes significant amounts of artillery equipment, missiles, and air defense systems. Sullivan stated that President Joe Biden has instructed the Department of Defense to send this equipment to Ukraine as soon as possible so that the country has the necessary tools to defend itself. According to this announcement, by mid-January, hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, thousands of missiles, and other critical equipment will be delivered to assist Ukraine in defending its independence and freedom. Sullivan also added that the President has approved a series of new measures to strengthen Ukraine's position in this war. Among these measures is prioritizing the export of air defense equipment to Ukraine, under which hundreds of additional missiles will be sent to the country, with more shipments on the way. According to this statement, to stabilize Ukraine's lines in the east, the President has authorized limited use of non-persistent landmines as an exception to the current U.S. landmine policy. Sullivan mentioned that in response to reports of North Korean soldiers entering the Ukraine war, the President has altered the authorization for the use of American long-range missiles. Additionally, to weaken Russia's war apparatus, the U.S. has imposed heavy sanctions on the Russian financial sector, with more sanctions in the pipeline.
