Anonymous Drone Attack on a Truck of Iranian-Backed Militants in Syria

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Friday, March 15, that a drone attack targeted a truck belonging to Iranian-backed militants in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, Syria. According to this UK-based organization monitoring the war in Syria, the truck, which had entered Syrian territory from Iraq through the Al-Bukamal border, was hit by an unidentified drone. No casualties from this attack have been reported, and Iranian militants have implemented security measures in the vicinity of the area. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. This comes after reports on Thursday, March 14, from local sources of another drone attack on a refrigerated truck belonging to Iranian-supported militants. There is no information available about the cargo of the truck, which had entered Syria along with several other trucks through the Al-Bukamal border. Such attacks are typically attributed to Israel, although the country does not take responsibility for them. Following the terrorist attack by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people (mostly civilians), Iranian-backed militants have increased their activity and consequently the intensity and number of their attacks on U.S. military bases in the region. The United States has also targeted their positions in several rounds in response to Iranian proxies.
