Another Crime; 12 Killed, Authorities Attribute It to 'Family Dispute'

The state news agency 'IRNA' reported the killing of 12 family members, including several children and women, due to a 'family dispute.' A few hours later, provincial law enforcement officials announced the death of the perpetrator during a confrontation with officers. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 17, in the southern province of Kerman. According to IRNA, as a result of a family dispute in the city of Faryab, an individual killed 12 family members with a firearm in several different homes. During this family massacre, news sources in southern Kerman reported that three others were also injured. The head of the Kerman judiciary explained that a 30-year-old man in the village of 'Mazraeh and Imam Adouri' in Faryab County killed 12 family members, including his father, brother, and brother's wife, with an AK-47 due to family disputes. In initial reports, Ebrahim Hamidi announced that the assailant was being pursued. A few hours later, the police commander of Kerman Province reported the death of the perpetrator of the 'family murder' in Faryab County. Nasser Farshid explained that during the arrest operation, the perpetrator was killed by police gunfire. Faryab County is located 330 kilometers southeast of Kerman city. In late October, officials in Boyerahmad reported a family murder in one of the villages of this county, resulting in the deaths of five people. Bahman Gorjian, the police chief of Boyerahmad County, announced on Saturday, October 21, that a 26-year-old man in the village of Cheshmeh Pahn Dashtroom killed his two brothers, brother's wife, and two brother's daughters due to what was termed 'financial disputes' with a 'handgun.' While family murders are defined within the realm of domestic violence, the forensic organization reported last year an increase in recorded disputes in Iran.
