Another Democratic Representative Asks Biden to Withdraw from Election; Adam Schiff: Pass the Torch to Someone Else

Adam Schiff, the Democratic chair of the House Intelligence Committee, on Wednesday urged Joe Biden to refrain from seeking reelection. This makes Schiff the most prominent Democrat to call for the President to step aside. In recent weeks, several Democratic representatives have gradually asked the President to withdraw from the race due to 'poor performance in last month's debate and concerns about Biden's ability to serve another term and his chances of defeating former President Donald Trump in November.' Schiff, who is running for a Senate seat in California, stated that while 'the decision to withdraw from the campaign is solely up to Biden,' he believes it is time for the President to 'pass the torch to someone else.' Schiff said this would help 'preserve his leadership legacy by defeating Donald Trump in the upcoming election.' On Wednesday, in a statement first reported by the Los Angeles Times, Schiff praised Biden as 'one of the most important presidents in American history,' but this praise did not prevent his call for new leadership, warning that a second Trump term would undermine the foundations of American democracy. He stated, 'A second Trump presidency would undermine our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the President can defeat Trump in November.' However, Schiff indicated his support for whoever the party nominates at next month's convention, saying, 'I will do whatever I can to help them succeed.' Joe Biden, the President of the United States, has explicitly stated that he will continue his campaign against Republican nominee Donald Trump. Biden says he will remain in the race and that only 'the Almighty' can ask him to end his campaign. He has asked Democratic lawmakers to support his campaign. George Clooney, the famous actor who was one of the hosts of a major fundraising event for Biden's campaign in Hollywood last month, claimed in an article published by the New York Times that the President is experiencing a 'spiritual and physical decline' and urged him to end his campaign for reelection. This Hollywood star, one of Biden's biggest supporters, managed to raise about $28 million for Biden's campaign alongside stars like Julia Roberts at last month's fundraising event in California. Clooney wrote in his New York Times article that 'the dam has broken' and added, 'We can bury our heads in the sand and pray for a miracle in November, or we can tell the truth.' He further stated that 'senior Democrats, including Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi, senators, representatives, and others who face defeat in November, should ask the President to voluntarily withdraw.'
