Another Missile Intercepted in Israel Launched from Yemen

The Israeli army announced that it intercepted another missile that was fired towards its territory by the Houthi group from Yemen. On Sunday, April 3, the Israeli army reported that it intercepted and destroyed the missile before it entered Israeli airspace. This is the second time in less than a week that Israel has accused the Houthi group, which is supported by the Islamic Republic, of launching missiles towards the country. On March 20, 2023, the Israeli army also reported intercepting another missile and stated that following the launch of this projectile, sirens sounded in several areas of the country, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The renewed missile launches from Yemen coincide with heightened tensions between Israel and the U.S. with the Houthis and amidst threats from U.S. President Donald Trump against Tehran for its support of this militia group. On March 18, Trump threatened to hold Iran responsible for any future attacks from the Houthis and warned of severe consequences for such actions. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responded by stating that the Houthis are 'independent' and make their own strategic and operational decisions. The Houthis have recently threatened to increase their attacks, including on Israeli targets, in response to the U.S. campaign. In the last week of the previous year, the United States launched extensive airstrikes against the Houthis and simultaneously warned Tehran to immediately stop supporting this group, which is designated as terrorist by the U.S. In this context, Houthi-affiliated media reported on Saturday, April 2, that the U.S. had conducted 'three attacks' on the port city of Hodeidah's airport in Yemen, a claim that has not yet been confirmed by international media.
