Another Suspect Arrested in Connection with Shooting of Spanish Politician; Suspect is a French National with Tunisian Citizenship

Spanish authorities announced on Wednesday, June 19, that another suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting of Alejandro Vidal Quadras, former leader of the Catalan People's Party, in the Netherlands. The suspect, a French national with Tunisian citizenship, has a criminal record and is the sixth person arrested in relation to this assassination attempt. Another suspect had been arrested in Colombia. The arrest of the suspect in the Netherlands was made based on an international warrant issued by the Spanish court. Spanish police identified this suspect using surveillance camera footage from the area. Alejandro Vidal Quadras, who served as Vice President of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2013, was targeted in an assassination attempt in Madrid last November. He strongly believes that the 'Iranian regime' is responsible for this act. Vidal-Quadras, who has close ties with the 'National Council of Resistance of Iran', has accused the Islamic Republic of being involved in this assassination attempt. He confidently states that the 'Iranian regime' was behind this attack but has no evidence to support this claim. Alejandro Vidal Quadras was attacked last November in Madrid while walking, resulting in a broken jaw and a bullet passing close to his neck and brain. The Islamic Republic had placed Vidal Quadras on its sanctions blacklist in October 2022. The European politician who survived the assassination attempt has called on the West to stop 'appeasing' the Islamic Republic. A Spanish politician claims the Iranian government is responsible for the assassination attempt on him. Spanish police have arrested three people in connection with the assassination attempt on the former politician. Investigations by Spanish police are ongoing regarding the possible role of the Islamic Republic in the assassination attempt on the former Spanish politician.
