Apple's Rapid Move Towards 'Zero Carbon' Policy; Annual Environmental Progress Report Released

On September 12, Apple released its 2023 environmental progress report alongside the introduction of the iPhone 15 Pro, which features a titanium body. The report outlines the company's performance and its path towards a 'zero carbon' policy. According to the report published on Apple's website, the company reduced greenhouse gas emissions by over 45% in 2022, amounting to 2.3 million tons, equivalent to removing 1.6 million cars from the roads. One of the key factors for this reduction is the use of renewable energy, as Apple now fully relies on renewable energy for powering its data centers, offices, and stores. The company has also signed renewable energy contracts with over 250 suppliers. Another factor is the use of recycled and renewable materials in Apple products, with the company currently using 20% recycled and renewable materials. Apple is also developing products made entirely from recycled or renewable materials. Additionally, the company recycled over 40,000 tons of electronic waste in 2022 and is developing programs to reduce electronic waste production. Lisa Jackson, Apple's Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, stated, 'Our commitment is to achieve zero carbon by 2030, with every Apple product made with clean energy and even more recycled and renewable materials. Because the Earth won't wait, and neither will we.' Apple is committed to continuing its environmental progress and aims to achieve goals such as zero carbon, 100% renewable energy use in its supply chain and research, 50% recycled materials in its products, and a 50% reduction in electronic waste by 2030. On Tuesday, September 12, Apple also unveiled the new Series 9 watch with a more powerful central processing unit.
