Appointment of Israel Katz as the New Foreign Minister of Israel; Parliament Must Approve

On Sunday, January 1, the Israeli war cabinet approved the appointment of Israel Katz, the current Minister of Energy, as the new Foreign Minister of the country. According to this pre-determined rotation at the ministerial level, Eli Cohen, the current Foreign Minister, will continue his activities as Minister of Energy in the war cabinet led by Netanyahu. The new appointments in the Israeli government require approval from the country's parliament, the Knesset, to be finalized. The Israeli government also agreed to hold postponed municipal elections in February, with final approval of this decision also resting with the Knesset.
