Arash Sadeghi is 'on the brink of death' in prison

A close associate of Arash Sadeghi told Radio Farda that this political prisoner is 'on the brink of death' after 45 days of hunger strike in Evin Prison. This individual close to Mr. Sadeghi stated that he still refuses to break his hunger strike until his wife's release. A campaign supporting this political prisoner also reported that he was transferred to the prison clinic on Wednesday evening, December 8, due to 'shortness of breath and severe heart palpitations.' The report added that this political prisoner's blood pressure was 'extremely low and, alongside severe heart palpitations and shortness of breath, other issues including gastrointestinal and kidney problems, reduced ability to speak, skin peeling, nausea, temporary vomiting of blood clots, and an 18-kilogram weight loss' indicate his 'extremely dangerous' condition. Arash Sadeghi is a political prisoner who was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Judge Salavati in the Revolutionary Court of Tehran for charges such as 'collusion and conspiracy against the regime, insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic, propaganda against the regime, and forming an illegal group.' Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee, Mr. Sadeghi's wife, was also sentenced to six years in prison for writing an unpublished story about stoning in Iran, accused of 'insulting the sacred' and 'propaganda against the regime.' Following the imprisonment of Ms. Iraee, he went on a hunger strike in protest. Arash Sadeghi is an expelled student from Allameh Tabatabai University who was arrested on September 6, 2014, by the IRGC's Sarallah Headquarters. This former student activist has been arrested several times in recent years and has sometimes spent months in solitary confinement. Arash Sadeghi's mother also suffered a heart attack during a raid by security forces on their home to arrest her son in 2010 and passed away after several days in the hospital.
