Argentinian Judge: Alberto Nisman Was Murdered

A federal judge in Argentina announced on Tuesday, December 26, that Alberto Nisman, the prosecutor of the AMIA case, was murdered. Alberto Nisman, the prosecutor investigating the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, was found dead a day before he was to present evidence and the results of his investigation to the country's parliament. Nisman had concluded that then-President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner intended to cover up Iran's possible role in the attack on the Jewish cultural center in Buenos Aires. According to Reuters, Judge Julian Ercolini stated on Tuesday that evidence proves that Alberto Nisman did not commit suicide on January 18, 2015. This is the first time a judge has declared that Alberto Nisman was murdered. In this context, a judge issued an arrest warrant for Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in connection with the case of Iran's involvement in the 1994 bombing. However, she has denied these accusations. Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, who served as Argentina's president from 2007 to 2015, managed to enter the Senate this year. The AMIA case was opened more than two decades ago following the bombing of the Jewish cultural center in Buenos Aires, which left 86 dead. At that time, the Lebanese group Hezbollah was accused of carrying out the bombing, and Iran was accused of directing it. Interpol later issued arrest warrants for several Iranian officials, in addition to Imad Mughniyeh, the then senior operational chief of Hezbollah, for their involvement in the bombing. Iran has repeatedly denied any involvement in this incident. In this context, the issuance of an arrest warrant for the former president of Argentina on charges of 'colluding with Iran' has emerged, with the former president denying the allegations of covering up for Iran in the AMIA case. The Argentine prosecutor stated that Judge Nisman had prepared an arrest warrant for Kirchner. The Argentine prosecutor's office indicated that there is no evidence of other individuals' involvement in Nisman’s death. The Argentine prosecutor stated that Kirchner covered up Iran's role in the AMIA explosion, while Nisman’s family insists that he was murdered.
