Argentinian President Surprises with Hard Rock Concert

Javier Milei, the controversial President of Argentina, once again surprised the people of his country and international observers with his speech and dance at an event that was both a hard rock concert and the launch of his new book. Many of his supporters in Argentina refer to him as 'crazy,' but he describes himself as their 'king.' Javier Milei took the stage on Wednesday evening, June 2, at an event described as the 'Gathering of Idol Worshippers' in Buenos Aires, performing before 10,000 people and exuberantly declaring, 'I am a lion, I am the king of the lost world. I will destroy you.' When his music ended, the President of Argentina threw off his black leather jacket to reveal a business suit underneath and went on stage to say that investments must be freed from government control. This event marked Javier Milei's first 'performance' at a music concert since his victory in last year's presidential election and was held at Luna Park, which has a capacity of about 8,000. A significant number of the audience were young right-wing supporters of Milei. The 53-year-old Javier Milei was the lead singer of a rock band called 'Everest' during his teenage years and is said to have a special interest in the operas of Giuseppe Verdi, the Italian composer. Major artists like Frank Sinatra and Liza Minnelli, as well as famous groups like 'Duran Duran,' have performed at this venue, which also hosted the lavish wedding of Argentine football star Diego Maradona in 1989. Wearing a long black leather coat, Milei stated, 'I did this because I wanted to sing.' Supporters of the Argentine President and concert organizers called it a 'celebration of freedom.' During his performance, Milei blamed 'damned communists' for the worsening economic situation in Argentina, adding, 'Enemies who want to prevent the progress of government programs want socialism and misery to continue.' He also attacked abortion rights supporters, calling them 'murderers.' Critics of Milei argue that this display, which bears little resemblance to the behavior of a typical national leader, does not address the rapidly rising rates of poverty and unemployment in Argentina. Argentina is grappling with its most severe economic crisis in decades, a situation that Milei promised to resolve upon taking office. However, six months into his presidency, at least 60% of the population lives in poverty, and the annual inflation rate has surged to around 300%, surpassing that of Syria, Lebanon, and Venezuela. According to the British newspaper The Guardian, opposition parties and their supporters claim that Javier Milei's new show and other controversies he has stirred up have only one goal: to divert public attention from the extreme austerity policies. Itai Hagman, a parliamentary representative from the 'Front for All,' a center-left party, stated, 'Javier Milei intends to hide the severe economic and social crisis that is the result of his government's policies with this show. There is no hope for the revival of the country's economy. The quick resolution of the country's economic issues or attracting foreign investment exists only in the President's imagination.' The Argentine newspaper La Nacion reported that a program like this concert and Milei's show is unprecedented in the country's history. One of the highlights of this gathering was the launch of Milei's new book titled 'Capitalism, Socialism, and the Neoclassical Trap.' During the concert, the members of the band that Milei assembled performed works from Argentine rock groups, including the band 'Ranga.' Milei's singing on stage for a crowd of several thousand will further cement his reputation as 'the most controversial head of state in the world,' a title given to him by the American magazine Time. Additionally, his position as one of the leading figures of the global far-right, alongside Donald Trump, Jair Bolsonaro, the former President of Brazil, and Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary, will be strengthened. Just hours before Milei took the stage, Argentina's statistics office announced that economic activity in March had decreased by more than eight percent compared to the same month last year. Political and economic experts in Argentina warn that if Javier Milei's government does not quickly deliver a good economic record, the current situation cannot continue, as many Argentines do not believe in Milei's claimed 'revolution' or are not confident in its success.
