Armed Attack in Rask County, Sistan and Baluchestan; 12 Law Enforcement Officers Killed

On Friday, December 15, the prosecutor of Sistan and Baluchestan province reported that in an armed attack on a police station in Rask County, 12 law enforcement officers were killed and 7 others were injured, some of whom are in critical condition. Mehdhi Shamsabadi's statements came shortly after the security and police deputy governor of Sistan and Baluchestan announced that 11 people had been killed. Alireza Marhamati also told the Islamic Republic's state news network that several attackers were also killed. Iranian officials did not accuse any specific group of carrying out this armed attack. Previously, the armed group 'Jaish al-Adl' had announced in a statement on its Telegram channel that its forces attacked the police command center in Rask County at 2 AM on Friday under a unit called 'Strategic Battalion of the Fadaiyan of Divine Justice.' The Baloch Activists Campaign also reported on its page on the 'X' network early Friday that 'after hours of clashes and hearing explosions and gunfire, reports indicate that the attack on the FARAJA command base in Rask County is ongoing.' The armed group 'Jaish al-Adl' had also attacked Police Station 16 in Zahedan on July 8. Molavi Abdulhamid, the Sunni Friday prayer leader of Zahedan, expressed his concern about this armed attack and the clashes around Police Station 16, condemning the violence. He also declared his 'concern and disavowal' of any form of 'violence and armed attack' and any actions that cause insecurity, emphasizing that their path is to address community issues through 'negotiation and constructive criticism' while stressing the importance of 'territorial integrity and national security.' The group Jaish al-Adl (previously known as Jundallah) was designated as a terrorist organization about 13 years ago. Since its establishment around 20 years ago, it has been involved in numerous attacks resulting in the deaths and injuries of several Islamic Republic forces and civilians. The group's declared goals include ensuring the recognition of the cultural, economic, and political rights of the Baloch people by the Iranian government and raising awareness of the difficult situation of the Baloch people. The group changed its name to Jaish al-Adl about 11 years ago and has since claimed responsibility for attacks under this name.
