Armed Individual Who Shot Near Donald Trump's Golf Club Arrested

Following a shooting near Donald Trump's golf club, the Republican presidential candidate reported his safety, and police announced that the suspect had been arrested. Gunfire was heard on Sunday, September 16, around Trump's golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The sheriff and several police officials told reporters that the armed individual, who had hidden in the bushes around the golf club, fled the scene after a confrontation with Secret Service agents but was later arrested on a road leading to a nearby city. Some American media, including CNN, The New York Times, and Fox News, identified the suspect as 'Ryan Wesley Roth, 58, from Hawaii,' but these reports have not yet been confirmed by the FBI. According to Reuters, three social media accounts bearing Roth's name indicate that he was a staunch supporter of Ukraine in its war with Russia. The New York Times reported that it had interviewed Ryan Wesley Roth in 2023 for an article about Americans who voluntarily assist Ukraine's war efforts. Roth told the Times that he traveled to Ukraine in 2022 and spent several months there, attempting to recruit Afghan soldiers fleeing the Taliban to fight in Ukraine. Sheriff Rick Bradshaw of Palm Beach told reporters that Secret Service agents found a rifle barrel in the bushes 350 to 450 meters from Trump's golf club during their investigations. According to this police official, Secret Service agents engaged with the armed individual, and after firing four shots, the armed man fled the scene, abandoning his weapon, two backpacks, and other belongings in a vehicle. The suspect's arrest occurred after a witness managed to photograph his license plate, and this information was sent to security agencies. The FBI announced that it appeared this incident was a 'failed assassination attempt' and has begun investigations into it. The United States Secret Service and Donald Trump's campaign headquarters reported his safety, and according to Reuters, Trump himself wrote in an email sent to his campaign registrants, 'I heard gunfire near me, but before rumors got out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I am safe and doing well.' The White House stated that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were informed of the incident and expressed relief at Trump's safety. Ms. Harris, expressing her happiness for Trump's well-being, wrote in a message on social media platform X, 'There is no place for violence in America.' Sean Hannity, a Fox News host, stated that he spoke with Trump and his companion on the golf course, Steve Witkoff, and said that Secret Service agents rushed to Trump and protected him. Approximately three weeks earlier, Reuters reported that a man in Arizona who had threatened Donald Trump with death on social media was arrested. This man was identified as Ronald Lee Siward, 66, with several outstanding warrants for various crimes, including sexual offenses. Previously, on July 14, Donald Trump was the target of a failed assassination attempt during a campaign speech in Pennsylvania, where he sustained a superficial ear injury. During that shooting, the assailant, identified as 'Thomas Crooks, 20,' was killed by a Secret Service sniper. Among the attendees at that campaign rally, one person was killed and another injured. This assassination attempt, which was the first attack on a former U.S. president in four decades, drew widespread criticism of the Secret Service's performance and ultimately led to the resignation of Kimberly Cheatle, the head of that agency. The U.S. presidential election is set to take place on November 6 this year.
