Armed Man Kills Four in California

An armed man in Northern California killed two of his neighbors and then opened fire randomly in various locations, including a school. Following these shootings, two more people were killed and ten others were injured. The police ultimately shot the assailant. The Tehama County police stated that surveillance cameras showed the assailant attempted to enter an elementary school near his residence, but school guards, apparently aware of the situation, closed the entrances and prevented him from entering. Phil Johnston, the deputy sheriff of Tehama, told reporters that the assailant fired six shots at the elementary school and then fled to other locations. According to this local police official, one student was injured, but their life is not believed to be in serious danger. The assailant was engaged in shooting people for a total of 45 minutes until police crashed into the vehicle he had stolen and shot him dead. Among the injured in this incident, at least one person is in critical condition. The identity of the assailant has not yet been determined. However, Phil Johnston mentioned that he had been charged with an attack last January. The district attorney stated that a person named Kevin Neal was charged last January. Kevin Neal's mother told the Associated Press that her son had a long-standing dispute with neighbors because he believed they were producing methamphetamine. This latest example of gun violence in America comes just ten days after an attack and shooting in a small-town church in Texas left 26 dead. Half of those in the church lost their lives, and the ages of the deceased ranged from five to 72 years. Just a few days prior, another armed individual in Colorado killed three people. Last October, a man named Stephen Paddock, armed with automatic and semi-automatic weapons and ammunition, opened fire from a hotel on thousands of people gathered for a concert in Las Vegas, killing 58. Paddock's attack is the deadliest of its kind in modern American history.
